How many people were in Jerusalem before the final exile in 586 B.C.?
Jeremiah 52:28-30 says that 4,600 people were taken into exile by Nebuchadnezzar. Apparently, this was the one third who escaped sword and famine. Therefore, the total amount in Jerusalem before the exile must have been about 13,800.
Jerusalem's Origin
God says about Jerusalem, “your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite.” Perhaps this was a reference more to her character than her lineage. However, if it was a reference to lineage, the city of Jerusalem was formally occupied by the Jebusites, which may have been a crossbreed of Amorites and Hittites.
