Who is the King David mentioned in Jeremiah and Ezekiel?
There are different theories about this King David. One is that he will be resurrected and be king once again (see this article by Wayne D. Turner) Some have suggested this is Christ, but it cannot be true. This king is also called a prince (Ezekiel 37:24-25) and is differentiated from the LORD (Ezekiel 34:23-24), and he will have priesty duties (Ezekiel 45:17, 22-25; 46:4,12), including offering sacrifices for his sins in the new temple in Jerusalem. He will also father children (Ezekiel 45:22; 46:18). A third theory is that he is a type of King David in the sense that John the Baptist was a type of Elijah. This is my belief, because David was an old man at his death. Perhaps God will rejuvenate him. If so, the first view might be correct. |
