handshake Day 285, October 12 more

The requirements for being an apostle were:

1.Chosen by the Lord and the Holy Spirit (see today’s Bible reading, Acts 1:2; 1Timothy 1:1; 2:7, and Revelation 21:14).

2. To have personally seen the risen Lord Jesus (Acts 4:33; 1Corinthians 9:1).

3.To have the signs of apostleship including doing miracles (Acts 5:12; 2Corinthians 12:12)

4. It was a foundational gift to establish the early church (Ephesians 2:20), therefore, you would have had to be living at that time.

End note: The Apostles were chosen by the Lord before his death and resurrection, but they served in those positions. All but Judas Iscariot would see the risen Lord. Peter led the assembly of believers in Jerusalem to cast lots to determine who would replace him because Judas betrayed Jesus and then hung himself. Matthias was chosen (Acts 1:15-26). Later, the Lord showed himself to Saul on the Damascus road. He converted him, and chose him to become the Apostle Paul. Both Matthias and Paul saw the risen Lord.
